Our partners, VITO and KU Leuven, are actively participating in the International Energy Agency Photovoltaic Power Systems (IEA PVPS) Task 13. This initiative focuses on international collaboration to improve the reliability of photovoltaic systems by collecting, analysing and sharing data on their technical performance and durability. The work of Task 13 translates afterwards into technical assessments and practical recommendations to improve PV systems’ electrical and economic output across various climatic regions.
Recently, Task 13 launched a new survey on the repair and refurbishment of damaged PV modules, aiming to map an overview of standard procedures for defective PV modules, whether the damage had occurred during production, transport or installation. The survey targets a wide range of stakeholders in the photovoltaic industry, including module manufacturers, installers or O&M operators, repair firms.
Participate in the Survey on PV Module Repair and Sustainability
The survey titled “Repair of modules with production defects or transport/installation damages” was distributed among the SOLMATE partners, seeking input from professionals with experience in repair or reworking procedures for defective PV modules, with the ultimate aim to enable a second life for these applications.
If you are a professional with experience in repair procedures for defective PV panels, please share your expertise with us and help Task 13 shape a future for second life photovoltaics. Contributions to the survey are anonymous.

Additional contributions of the SOLMATE partners to the work of IEA PVPS
Members of the SOLMATE consortium, notably VITO [in charge of the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)], CEA and SOREN are also involved in Task 12 of the IEA-PVPS, which focuses on the sustainability of PV systems. Their activities ensure that PV systems are efficient, cost-effective and equally environmentally sustainable, thus supporting the transition to renewable energy. Task 12 aims to facilitate a common understanding of PV Sustainability, with a focus on Environment Health and Safety (EH&S), among the various country-members and disseminate the Task’s outcomes and knowledge to stakeholders, energy and environmental policy decision makers, and the general public.
